"Catch the Wave!"

From The Principal's Desk

January 7, 2010

Happy New Year!

Wow! Can you believe that we've already started the second half of the year? Where does the time go? With the new year we have some new changes to share with you. First, I'd like to welcome some new faces to our staff: Janet Hammock (art teacher), Hannah Standley (exceptional education assistant), and Wayne Jones (kitchen). We are glad to have them join an exceptional faculty and staff. Also, we're adding some new things to our Greenwave Expectations.

First and foremost, the Greenwave Expectations support our core beliefs at HES. As you read in the letter I sent home prior to the break, we are really focusing on catching people doing things right in other words catching the W.A.V.E. So, beginning Monday, 1/11/10, all grade levels will use the same system to redirect, recognize and reward behavior. Everyone is excited about it as it will help us to all be "on the same page", and it will foster consistency as your children move up through the grade levels. Each year we will continue to expect the same model behavior that you expect at home. Not only are the expectations practical for life at school, but they are very practical for everyday life. In case you haven't read them lately, you can find them in your Parent/Student Handbook, or better yet ask your child to tell you a few.

The rest of this year promises to be a great one. Please do not hesitate to call your teacher, Ms. Short, or me if you have any questions or concerns. Remember this is a team effort. It will take all of us to achieve the goals we have set for our children.

Until next time...
